The late Dr. and Mrs. Reed Carroll loved family time at Seldom Seen—their legacy and memory are alive in this beautiful place today.
Established in 1957 by Dr. Reed Carroll, Seldom Seen farm continues to be a special place for family gatherings, weddings, and other memorable events.
The late Dr. Reed Carroll was a Johns Hopkins-educated surgeon from the Mississippi Delta who loved to hunt and fish. He fought in the Pacific in World War II and was awarded the Navy-Marine Corps medal for bravery in the Battle of the Aleutians. He met Evelyn Carroll in 1945 while at medical school. They married, moved to Greenwood, and started a family of six children.
Dr. Carroll practiced medicine and taught Sunday School for 40 years. In his spare time, he bought 500 acres of hardscrabble Carroll County farmland, where he proceeded to build his country retreat. Carroll constructed lakes, planted pines, and invested in Seldom Seen with his passion for the outdoors.
In 1993, Dr. Carroll was recognized as the Mississippi Tree Farmer of the Year, the Southeast Regional Tree Farmer of the Year, and placed fourth in the nation as National Tree Farmer of the Year. Seldom Seen is a living testament to Dr. Reed Carroll’s passion for sustainable agriculture, wildlife conservation, and the blessings of the outdoor world.
Throughout his life, Dr. Carroll shared Seldom Seen with a multitude of Boy Scouts, church groups, friends, and family. Countless people have been enriched from their experiences here. We want your visit to be wonderful and for you to create your own special memories!
We look forward to your special event!
